在美國，某些店家在做促銷時，最常見的手法之一就是 mail-in rebate (郵寄退款)，對於台灣人來說，這種促銷手法可能很陌生，基本上 mail-in rebate 的做法是我們先購買某樣店家指定的商品，接著廠商會提供一個 rebate form (郵寄退款表格)，之後我們只要將表格填好寄回去，通常在六到八週後就會收到退款的支票，這種方式雖然有點麻煩，但有時候退款金額相當可觀，有的甚至會變成是 free after rebate (全額退回)。

還有另一種叫做 instant rebate (即時折價)，顧名思義就是立刻給你的折扣，比起 mail-in rebate，它比較少見、折扣的金額通常也不多。

A tax rebate 則是政府退還你多付的稅款。
