購物「結帳」用英文可以用下面這三種說法: (1) Ring up the sale  (2) Ring up the purchase (3) Ring + 商品 + up。​Ring up 的過去式是 rang up，而過去完成式是 rung up。

收銀員結帳後我就離開了。

If you don't mind, I will ring up your purchase at the front of the store.

Just when I realized that I didn't have enough money, the cashier had already rung up the sale.

當我們說某家店 sell out of something就表示那樣商品的庫存都「賣光了」。電影、演唱會、比賽等等娛樂活動的門票「銷售一空」可以用主動的 sell out 或是被動的 be sold out。​

主動的語氣(active voice)

被動的語氣(passive voice)

Tonight's performance is completely sold out.

今晚的演出完全售罄。

The premiere on Friday is sold out.

A: Are there any more tickets?

“還有票嗎？” “抱歉沒有了，我們全都賣光了。”

The shows are sold out. There are no tickets left.

表演(門票)已售罄。沒有票了。

名詞 back order (也有不分開 backorder 的拼法)中文譯為「暫時斷貨的訂單、已經售出但延期交貨的訂單」

The automaker has about 10,000 back orders for their newest model.

這家車商的最新車型有大約 10,000 份延期交貨訂單。

With so many back orders on hand, we can not promise any shipment before March.

由於手頭上的延期交貨訂單過多，我們無法答應三月之前送貨。

我們也可以用 something is on back order 或是 Something is back-ordered 來表達「商品斷貨、延期交貨中」

To gift-wrap 是「用漂亮的包裝紙(wrapping paper)、緞帶 (ribbon)裝飾禮物」的動作，去掉中間的連字符(hyphen)，gift wrap 則是指「禮物包裝紙」或是「禮物包裝的服務」，要注意它是不可數名詞的用法喔！

我們生活中常講的「預購」，英文可以用 pre-order 來表達，pre-order 動詞名詞都是同一個字，我們先來看動詞的用法：

I will pre-order the latest XBOX gaming console from playstation.com.

我會在playstation.com上預購最新的XBOX遊戲主機。

The new Nintendo Switch is coming in October, but you can pre-order it now. 

新的 Nintendo Switch 將於 10 月上市，但您現在可以預購。

Pre-order 當名詞意思是開放預購(不可數名詞)或是預購單(可數名詞)，例句：

Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 13 on September 24. The release will follow an announcement of the new series on September 14. Pre-order is likely to start on September 17.

蘋果預計將於 9 月 24 日發布新款 iPhone 13。發布時間將會在 9 月 14 日的新產品發表會之後。可能會在 9 月 17 日開放預購。

The book will come out on 1 October and is available for pre-order on various shopping sites.
