Motion = a formal suggestion made, discussed, and voted on at a meeting

  • I'd like to put forward a motion.
  • A member seconded the motion.
  • The motion was accepted/passed.
  • The motion was defeated/rejected.
  • I see consensus in the affirmative to move forward on this motion, so we will.

Mr. Lerman: Mr. Chairman, I move to amend the agenda so that we can immediately debate a motion that I sent out to all members of the committee more than 48 hours ago. I would like us to be able to debate the motion right away and then hear from the witnesses.

Chairman: Thank you, Mr. Lerman. Do you want to deal with this motion now or at the end, after we hear from the witnesses?
