大家在學習英文單字的時候，應該會發現一些常出現的字首 (prefixes) 和字尾 (suffixes) ，「字首」可以加在原形單字的前面，舉例來說，在 do (做) 這個字前方加上字首 re 變成 redo 就有「重做」的解釋，因為 re 這個字首有「再一次」的意思。熟悉它們的規律性對於單字背誦是很有幫助的喔！

我們再來舉一個字尾的例子：ness 一般加在形容詞後，它可以將詞性變為名詞，表示處於形容詞所形容的這種狀態，像是 greatness (偉大)、darkness (黑暗)、kindness (善良)、happiness(幸福)，分別是形容詞加上 ness變化而來的。因此當我們在 nearsighted/farsighted (近視的/遠視的) 的後面加上 ness，nearsightedess/farsightedness 意思就是近視和遠視的「狀態」，例句：

She had her eyes tested for farsightedness. 

彼女の目は遠視の検査を受けました。

The clinic has many years of experience in treatment of farsightedness with laser correction of the vision.  

当クリニックは、遠視のレーザー視力矯正に長年の実績があります。

配眼鏡的流程通常是這樣子的：驗光師 (optometrist) 會先幫客人驗光，驗光後會開立配鏡處方箋， 「開立配鏡處方箋」的英文是 to write (out) glass prescription，接著客人可以根據配鏡處方箋去眼鏡行或是直接在眼科診所製作眼鏡， 「(客人)去眼鏡行或是眼科診所配眼鏡」或是 「(配鏡師)根據處方箋配置眼鏡」這兩個動作在英文都是用 to fill glass prescriptions 來表達，我們來看例句：

It is the optometrist's job to write out glass prescriptions, and it is the optician's job to fill eyeglass prescriptions.

Prescription 的意思是「處方箋;處方箋藥」，在美國要拿處方箋藥之前 ，必須要先去醫院或是診所讓醫生針對你的病情開處方箋，接著你可以拿著處方箋去藥局讓藥劑師根據醫生開的處方箋幫你調劑配藥 ，「(病人)去藥局拿處方箋藥」跟 「(藥劑師)調劑處方箋藥」這兩個動作在英文都是用 to fill one's prescription 來表達，我們來看一些例句：

在台灣，如果你對你的視力感到驕傲，你會說：我的視力 1.0 ，外國人則是會說：I have 20/20 vision.，這邊注意一下 20/20 的唸法有兩種：你可以讀成 twenty twenty vision 或是 twenty out of twenty vision。那為什麼國外表達視力 1.0 是 20/20 (分子永遠是20) 呢？前面的 20 是 20 英尺的意思，它代表我們和視力表的距離，根據眼科專家的說法，那是因為當我們注視 20 英尺外的物體時，我們的眼睛會放鬆到正常狀態。既然 20/20 = 標準視力 1.0 ，那 20/50 vision 又是什麼意思呢？這個數字代表當你可以清楚看見 20 英尺處，但別人卻可以清楚看見 50 英尺處，代表你的視力不太好，換算下來只有 0.4。

另外，台灣人很常說「我近視 300 度」，或是「我遠視 125 度」，外國人則是會用 diopter (屈光度)  來表示，diopter 有分正負數，舉例來說：「我近視 300 度」，處方箋上就會寫著 -3.0，有以下三種說法：(1) I am nearsighted with 3.0 diopters. (2) I am three diopters nearsighted. (3) I have three diopters of nearsightedness.

「我遠視 125 度」，處方箋上就會寫著 +1.25，有以下三種說法：(1) I am farsighted with 1.25 diopters. (2) I am one and one-quarter diopters farsighted. (3) I have one and one-quarter diopters of farsightedness.，同學們可以試試看用英文表達自己的度數，來看更多例句：

及物動詞 inject 會出現在多益考試「健康」的主題，它的中文的解釋是注射(藥物)，我們經常會在後面加上介系詞 into 或是 with，例句：

Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in eye and vision care.

Eye diseases are common and can go unnoticed for a long time—some have no symptoms at first. A comprehensive dilated eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist (eye doctor) is necessary to find eye diseases in the early stages when treatment to prevent vision loss is most effective. 

目の病気はよくあることで、長い間気付かないことがあります。最初は何の症状もない人もいます。視力低下を防ぐための治療が最も効果的な時期に、眼疾患を早期に発見するには、検眼医または眼科医による瞳孔散大検査が不可欠です。

Optician 中文除了有「配鏡師」的解釋以外，也可以翻成「眼鏡行」，例句：

我們來看兩則關於眼鏡行一褒一貶的評價：

Optician、optometrist 和 ophthalmologist 都是眼睛保健專家 (eye health professionals)，但是只有 ophthalmologist 是可以動手術的眼科醫生 (因此也只有ophthalmologist 可以和 eye doctor 劃上等號的)，optician 和 optometrist 分別是配鏡師和驗光師的職稱，我們來看一段英文的描述更清楚：
