Technician 是指在科學或工程技術方面具有專業知識和技能的人才，他們通常負責安裝、維護和修理電腦、各類機械或電子產品等等，一般我們常接觸到的 technician 有像是 computer support technician (電腦技術員)、automotive technician (修車技師)、electrical technician (電力工程技師) 以及炙熱夏天沒有他不行的 HVAC technician(暖通空調技術員)，我們來看一些例句：

The technician arrived promptly to fix the malfunctioning printer.

技術人員迅速趕到，修理故障的印表機。

The technician was able to quickly diagnose the problem and replace the faulty part.

技術人員很快地診斷出問題並更換故障的零件。

The technician inspected the old wiring and found that it was outdated and posed a fire hazard.

技師檢查了舊電線，發現它已經過時並存在火災隱患。

Broken有下面幾種意思: (1) 壞掉了 (2) 碎掉的 (3) 骨折。

Broken = 東西壞掉了

日常生活中 要表達東西壞掉了 最常用的字就是broken。

The shower is broken. You'll have to have a bath.

淋浴壞了。你得泡澡。

Broken = 碎掉的

The street was covered with broken glass.

街上佈滿了碎掉的玻璃。

There's broken glass on the floor. 

地板上有碎玻璃。

My car's rear-view mirror is broken.

Broken = 骨折

「東西發生故障」的英文可以用 動詞 malfunciton 這個字，Malfunction 也可以當名詞，意思是「故障」，例如:

A software problem is causing the system to malfunction.

軟件問題導致系統出現故障。

The copy machine is malfunctioning.

那台列印機出現故障。

Malfunction 也可以當名詞，例如:

Shortly before the crash, the pilot had reported a malfunction of the aircraft's navigation system.

Act up 可以表達「機器運轉不正常」或是某人「身體部位出毛病」。

My sister's laptop has also been acting up recently even though she just bought it a year ago.

Buggy這個字可以用來形容電腦或手機應用程式或遊戲有不合理或是錯誤的地方。

Crash 的意思是「撞擊」，除此之外，用電腦的時候，電腦突然間關機 (shutdown)、重新啟動 (reboot)，或者更慘，電腦呈現藍白當機畫面 (blue screen of death/ BSOD)，這時候我們可以用「crash」這個單字：My computer crashed and I lost everything. (我的電腦當機了，所有東西都不見了。) 用手機要在 Instagram 上 PO 文的時候，Instagram 突然間「閃退」，已經打好的內文和 hashtags 就這樣沒了(Oh no!)，這時候我們也是用「crash」這個單字：Hey, is your Instagram app acting weird? Mine keeps crashing. It's so frustrating! (嘿，你的 Instagram app 有怪怪的嗎？ 我的一直閃退。 好煩吶！)

機器或是電器用品內部中出現的「瑕疵」，英文叫做 defect，Defect 也可以指的是生理缺陷，例句：

The computer I bought had many defects. I will return it.

如果機器、電器用品、或是電子用品內部中有出現瑕疵因此無法正常運作，英文我們可以用 defective 來形容，中文我們通常會翻成「壞掉了」、「機器有問題」，雖然 broken 跟 defective都可以指東西壞掉，但 defective強調的是機器、電器用品、或是電子用品本身就有瑕疵，我們來看些例句：

I bought a pair of headphones at the store yesterday, but they only play sound out of one ear, so they must be defective.

我昨天在店裡買了一副耳機，但是只能從一隻耳朵裡發出聲音，所以肯定是有問題的。

Freeze 這個單字最原本是「凍結」、「結冰」的意思，想像一下，當電腦或手機當機時，無論我們怎麼點滑鼠、試著要滑動它，螢幕都沒有任何反應(unresponsive)，就像是被凍住了一樣，因此我們用 「freeze」 這個動詞或者形容詞「frozen」來表達，例句：

My computer screen froze.  I dragged and clicked my mouse multiple times, but nothing happened.

我電腦螢幕畫面不動了。我移動又點滑鼠好幾次，但它沒有任何反應。

My cellphone is overheating and I'm worried that the screen's gonna freeze like it did the last time.

形容詞 Malfunctioning 跟 faulty 都可以用來形容東西「有問題、發生故障」，例句：

Honda is recalling more than 1.6 million minivans and SUVs in the United States to fix problems that include faulty backup camera displays and malfunctioning dashboard displays, and sliding doors that don't latch properly.

本田汽車正召回超過 160 萬輛在美國境內的小型貨車和 SUV，以解決倒車攝像顯示器故障、儀表板顯示器故障以及側滑門無法正確關上等等的問題。

Out of order 通常指公眾設施或是辦公室的設備「故障了」，例如:

The elevator's out of order again. We'll have to take the stairs.

電梯又出故障了。我們得走樓梯。

The sign on the vending machine says “out of order.”

販賣機上的標誌寫著“故障”。

Hi, Edward! This is Jody from the Personnel Department. I just wanted to let you know that the projector in meeting room 5B is out of order.

Unresponsive 可以表達「手機、電腦螢幕觸控不良」或是某人「沒有反應」。

Patient is still unresponsive. We need to intubate.

病人仍然沒有反應，我們需要插管。

The owner is unresponsive to repair notices so the authorities got a court order to demolish the building.

業主沒有回應維修通知，因此當局獲得了法庭命令，要求拆除該棟建築物。

Many iPhone X users reported on Reddit that the touchscreen would become unresponsive after experiencing rapid temperature drops. They tried to tap it or swipe it, and it did nothing in return.
