Questions 11-12
Choose two letters A-E.

Write your answers in boxes 11-12 on your answer sheet.

Which TWO considerations made the Hartwell site especially suitable, according to Anita Pearce?
  1. shorter industrial-centre commutes
  2. nearby hospital and school
  3. airport access for travellers
  4. unproductive farmland
  5. slope aiding design

11

12

(A) is correct. Anita says many workers at the new industrial centre currently travel a long way, and the development is intended to ease that pressure.

(B) is correct. The hospital and secondary school nearby meant future residents would have key public services within reach.

(C) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: airport access for travellers.

(D) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: unproductive farmland.

(E) is incorrect. The slope is treated as a drawback to manage, not an advantage.

Associated Text:
There's a clear shortage of housing for the people working at the new industrial centre that has just opened in Hartwell, a lot of those employees are currently commuting in from a long way away, and we very much want to relieve that pressure

What did matter a lot, though, was the fact that there's an excellent general hospital only about fifteen kilometres up the road, and a large secondary school that is even closer than that, so basic public services are well within reach for future residents

Questions 13-14
Choose two letters A-E.

Write your answers in boxes 13-14 on your answer sheet.

Which TWO features have attracted the strongest positive reaction from residents so far?
  1. varied homes and prices
  2. confirmed cycling facilities
  3. nature-sensitive site design
  4. nearby airport access
  5. older residents' recreation areas

13

14

(B) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: confirmed cycling facilities.

(D) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: nearby airport access.

(E) is incorrect. A feedback point.

Associated Text:

(A) is correct. Residents welcomed the breadth of accommodation types and prices.

(B) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: confirmed cycling facilities.

(C) is correct. Residents particularly liked the way the design works with the landscape and protects trees and wildlife.

(D) is incorrect. The recording does not support this option: nearby airport access.

(E) is incorrect. A feedback point.

Questions 15-20

Label the plan of the Hartwell development below.

Choose Write the correct letter A-I for each answer.
I F G D C E A H Main Road Housing Key To Hartwell Lake Apartment blocks S W E N London Road B E
15 School
16 Sports centre
17 Clinic
18 Community centre
19 Supermarket
20 Playground

The correct answer is A because the school is on the central road from the south entrance, at the corner where the second left turning meets it, which is labelled A.

Associated Text:
If you begin at the south entrance at the bottom of the map, the central road runs straight up through the middle of the development. Follow that road in and the primary school for children up to the age of eleven will sit on it, on the corner where the second turning to the left meets the central road.

The correct answer is D because the sports centre is on the western side of the development just below the road branching from London Road, matching D.

Associated Text:
From that central spine, look over to the western side near London Road. Just below the road that branches off from London Road, we're planning a large sports centre with both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The correct answer is F because the clinic is just below the lake, immediately to the right of a row of houses, and that location is F.

Associated Text:
If you carry your eye up towards the top of the development, you'll see the lake. Just below it, immediately to the right of a row of houses, residents will have a clinic on site for everyday health needs.

The correct answer is E because the community centre is next to the over-65s housing on the northeast side of the development, sharing a wall with it, which is E.

Associated Text:
Over on the northeast side, beyond that area, we're putting up a row of specially designed houses for the over 65s, and right next to them, sharing a wall, in fact, will be the new community centre

The correct answer is C because the supermarket is roughly halfway between the two entrances and just south of the three mature trees near London Road, labelled C.

Associated Text:
A little further into the site, roughly halfway between the two entrances, we're keeping the three large mature trees near London Road, and the supermarket will sit just to the south of those trees.

The correct answer is I because the playground is tucked into the bend at the top of the central road, where children will have views across the lake, and that position is I.

Associated Text:
Finally, for the children's playground, follow the central road up from the south entrance until it bends round to the left at the very top of the development. The playground will be tucked into that bend, so younger residents should have lovely views across the lake.
