Questions 1-10
Complete the notes below.

Write ONE WORD AND/OR A NUMBER for each answer.

Tape conditions

• Before packing, remove any protective (1)

Price and return

• For roughly 50 tapes, the basic charge is (2)£, with one drive included.

• Payment is requested after the (3) are completed.

What the basic service includes

• Groups can be saved under a chosen folder name such as (4)

• Dark pictures may have their (5) adjusted, as well as contrast.

• Very delicate tapes are copied by (6) instead of the usual machine.

Optional restoration

• Recordings can be edited, including work on the (7)

• The studio cannot properly remove (8) from a cassette.

• Normal turnaround time: (9) days

• Use a cardboard box for posting, rather than an (10)

The correct answer is sleeve because Karen asks whether to leave all packaging on, but the staff member distinguishes outer cases from the protective sleeve fitted round the cassette and says that sleeve must be removed.

Associated Text:
Karen: That should be fine. Some of them are still in plastic cases, and a few have that cover fitted round the cassette itself. Should I leave all of that on for protection when I post them?
Studio staff: The outer cases are fine, but the fitted cover has to come off. We can't process a tape while it's still in its protective sleeve, so send each tape loose in the box.

The correct answer is 215 because the lower 175-pound price is only for smaller batches, while Karen's forty-to-sixty tape band costs 215 pounds.

Associated Text:
Studio staff: For a smaller batch, say up to thirty tapes, it can be 175 pounds, but that wouldn't apply here. If it stays within forty to sixty tapes, the basic service is 215 pounds. It would only change if the number went outside that band.

The correct answer is transfers because the staff member says the studio waits until the transfers are completed before requesting payment.

Associated Text:
Studio staff: No, we won't need anything upfront. We wait until we've completed the transfers. Then we'll let you know how much it is, and once we've received the payment, we'll send the parcel off to you.

The correct answer is holidays because the staff member rejects travel as necessary and gives holidays as the folder label for trip recordings.

Associated Text:
If one batch is all from trips away, for instance, we could label that folder holidays, or you can choose another name. We don't have to call it travel.

The correct answer is brightness because the staff member says dark pictures can have their brightness adjusted, along with contrast.

Associated Text:
If the picture is too dark, we can adjust the brightness, and we can improve the contrast as well.

The correct answer is hand because particularly fragile tapes are copied by hand rather than through the usual machine.

Associated Text:
if any look particularly fragile, we'd do them by hand rather than put them through the usual machine.

The correct answer is music because the special restoration service can remove unwanted film and also work on the music.

Associated Text:
if there is a piece of film you do not want, we can take it out, and we can work on the music too.

The correct answer is dirt because Karen identifies dirt on the cassette as the problem, and the staff member says that is something the studio cannot remove properly.

Associated Text:
Karen: Oh, and talking of fixing tapes, I've got a few that have got dirt on the cassette. Can you do anything to make that better?
Studio staff: No, I'm afraid that is something we can't remove properly.

The correct answer is fourteen because ten days is only for small orders and three weeks is for damaged tapes, while a normal batch is completed in fourteen days.

Associated Text:
small orders can sometimes be finished in ten days, and damaged tapes may take three weeks, but for a normal batch like yours we aim to get the transfers done in fourteen days.

The correct answer is envelope because the staff member recommends a cardboard box and warns that envelopes can break in the post.

Associated Text:
We've found that envelopes sometimes break in the post, even padded ones.
