TOEIC Vocabulary Flashcard

If you enclose something with a letter, you put it in the same envelope as the letter. If a place or object is enclosed by something, the place or object is inside that thing or completely surrounded by it.

1. Refund = give a customer money back usually because they are not satisfied with the product or service they have bought (Verb)

• If the shipment is late, we'll refund the shipping cost.
• The holiday was canceled so the travel agency had to refund everybody the price of the tickets. 
• Please know that we won't refund any money if you mistakenly enter billing information in your account.

2. Refund = an amount of money that is given back to a customer (Countable Noun)

• In most cases, consumers have the right to ask for a full refund for faulty goods.
• Since the show is canceled, I would like to get a refund for the tickets.
• Since the show is canceled, I would like to get a refund of the money that we paid for the tickets.
• It really annoys me that I cannot get a refund for this defective laptop.
• China Airlines has begun offering refunds to passengers whose flights are affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
• Regulations in Taiwan require hotels to offer a full refund to guests who canceled room bookings three days before the scheduled arrival.

If an amount of money is refundable, it can be given back to the person who paid it,

• Due to hygiene concerns and for the safety of our consumers, suppliers, and carriers, some products are non-returnable and non-refundable. 
• All underwear and items marked final sale are non-refundable. 
• Hotels usually offer early-bird discounts to attract more customers during low seasons. However, bookings are usually non-refundable. 
• All items from Kmarket Global are fully refundable within 7 days. After 7 days, no purchases would be refunded.

1. Replacement = a product item that replaces the current item (Countable Noun)

• Apple is offering free battery replacements on some of its iPhone 6s models after discovering a defect that causes the phones to randomly shut down.
• After examining your iPhone, your technician will confirm the total costs for repair or replacement and see if it is covered by the Apple warranty, AppleCare+.
• Since you bought it online, it should be fully covered by our warranty. And if it can't be fixed, you'll be given a replacement item for free.

2. Replacement =someone who does a job instead of someone else (Countable Noun)

• I'm leaving next month. I'll need to find replacements and train them.
• Charlotte will be leaving the company for personal reasons. Her replacement will be Isabella. 

The adjective authorized comes from the verb authorize, which means "give formal approval." So when an authority grants her approval or permission to do something, it becomes authorized. 

1. Warranty = a guarantee from a company to repair or replace a product that develops a fault within a particular period of time (Countable Noun)

The following phrases or sentences are often used

(1) Warranty coverage is limited 

(2) One-year warranty, two-year warranty...etc 

(3) The warranty covers …  

(4) Our product comes with/have a one-year warranty 

(5) This product is covered by the warranty = This product is under warranty 

(6) Take out a warranty  = get a warranty for a product

Example sentences:

• I have been considering buying that blender, but I just found that the warranty coverage is very limited.
• Appliances usually come with a one-year warranty.
• The TV comes with a two-year warranty. 
• This warranty will expire one year from the date of purchase. 
• If your product is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we can repair it for no extra charge.
• When making a claim under warranty, the receipt or original proof of purchase bearing the date and store of purchase must be submitted. 
• This warranty covers all malfunctions of products due to defects in materials.
• Would you like to take out an extended warranty on your purchase?
• What does my new car warranty cover?

2. Warranty = a written promise from a company to repair or replace a product that develops a fault within a particular period of time (Countable Noun)

• Please keep the warranty as it must be presented along with other proof of purchase for exchanges or repairs under guarantee. 
• To register your purchase, please take a few minutes to fill out the warranty card.
