(Section 1: You will hear a conversation between a resort staff member and a customer who is enquiring about information on transportation from the airport to the resort. First, you will have some time to look at questions 1 to 7 [20 seconds]. Now, listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 7.)

    F=Female Speaker

M: Hello, this is Blue Lagoon Resort information centre. How can I help you?

F: Hi, good morning. I’ve booked a stay with you next week and I’m just phoning to find out about transport from the airport to the resort . Can you tell me the best way to get there?

M: Sure. The Blue Lagoon Resort, did you say? Hmm, let’s see. That’s around 30 km north of the airport. So that will take you at least an hour by road.

    F: Really? So long?

M: Yes, I’m afraid so, the roads aren’t very good. But you have a number of options to choose from to get you there, and you can always rent a car here in the airport.

F: Mmm, I don’t really want to do that after a long flight, to be honest. I’m sure I’ll be too tired. I’d prefer the public transport options.

M: Right, in that case your best option is probably to catch a taxi – there are always plenty waiting outside the airport so you won’t need to book one. It might be an expensive trip though.

F: I’m pretty sure a taxi fare will be out of my price range for that distance. Is there a bus or train?

M: Sure. You can catch a city bus or the Resort Shuttle, which stops at the resort.

F: How much is the bus?

    M: Let’s see … That’s $25 one way or $35 return.

F: Great – that’s not too expensive. Does it drop passengers inside the resort?

M: There’s a stop on the road in front of the resort and from there it’s a 15-minute walk to reception.

F: 15 minutes? Oh no … I’ll have heavy suitcases with me. I don’t want to drag them for 15 minutes.

M: Right. I see. Well what about the Resort Shuttle?

M: That will take you from the airport straight to the resort. It’s a door-to-door service and it goes every half hour. Would that suit you better?

F: Ok, yes, how much does that cost?

M: Umm, to Blue Lagoon that would be $35 one-way and $60 return, so a bit more expensive that the city bus.

F: Ok, well, I don’t mind paying that if it will drop me right at the resort.

M: Fine. You do have to book a seat in advance.

F: Ok, can I make a booking right now?

    M: Sure. Just a second.

(Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you will have some time to look at questions 8 to 10 [20 seconds]. Now, listen and answer questions 8 to 10.)

M: Ok, I’ll just fill out this booking form for you. What date do you want to book your journey for?

    F: It’s for the 25th June.

M: Ok, so that’s the Resort Shuttle to The Blue Lagoon. Is it just for one person?

F: Yes, just for me, please.

M: Ok, what time does your flight land?

    F: At … let’s see … at 5.35 pm.

M: So if I book your shuttle for after 6 – let’s say 6.30 pm – that should leave you plenty of time to collect your bags and find the bus stop.

F: That sounds fine – as long as we land on time.

M: Well, I’ll take your flight details too so if you your flight is late we can rebook you onto a later bus. What flight will you be arriving on?

F: It’s British Airways, flight number BA274 from London City Airport.

M: Great. And are you booking a return?

    F: Yes.

M: So, that’s  $60 to pay, please. Have you got your credit card number there?

    F: Yes, it’s 3521 6437 2829 5657.

M: Great. That’s gone through for you now. So, that’s everything! Have a good flight and enjoy your stay at the resort.

F: Thanks for your help. Bye!
