Thank you, everyone, for coming along to this information session about Highland Spas. I hope you’ll find the information you’re looking for. If you are interested in booking a yoga retreat for yourself or someone you know, please feel free to ask me any questions at the end and I’ll be happy to help you. I’ll begin with a little bit of background about Highland Spas so that you have an idea of what we have to offer.
Highland Spas was founded 15 years ago with just 1 studio located in Glasgow, in Scotland. Then, 10 years ago we added 3 new spas in various cities around Scotland, and that’s when we started running yoga retreats too. We expanded quite fast after that, and for the past 5 years we’ve had 10 spas all over Scotland.
If you book a yoga retreat in Glasgow, you can choose from 3 different locations in various parts of the city. In Aberdeen, we now have 3 spas, half of which run yoga retreats. Edinburgh is where we have the majority of our spas, and there you’ll have a choice of 4 beautiful spa locations. We are currently looking into expanding into England, where we have 2 potential properties, which we are looking into converting into spas.
Now, all of our yoga retreats cater for both beginners and experts, and everybody in between. They offer a wide range of activities every afternoon after yoga class, which are led by specialist teachers. The usual routine is to start every afternoon with quiet meditation, followed by stretching or massage. We have a library in every spa with books available to borrow for those who want to spend quiet time reading, and there are also creative activities ranging from group singing to dance, depending on the interests of the visitors in attendance. Twice a week, there’s a half-day workshop with an expert teacher. Of course, the aim is for you to experience deep relaxation and to forget the worries and stresses of day-to-day life, and so we implement a ‘no screens’ policy to encourage you to switch off and disconnect from social media, email, new channels etc. Of course, we also understand that you need to keep in touch with family members and so ‘no screen’ time is only applied during the daytime. Breakfast is from 6 AM until 7:30 AM , and class time starts from 8:30 AM so we implement the policy from then until 6 PM, after dinner.
Now, health insurance. While it’s unlikely that you’ll need to use it, it’s always best to be covered by insurance, just in case. You can organise your own if you prefer, but if you don’t you’ll have to take out our policy. You are required to do this when you book your place on the retreat.
We do offer a loyalty scheme for our customers and there are added advantages if you recommend us to a friend. All customers will receive email updates about special offers, and your friends will receive a 5% discount on their booking. As a thank you, you will receive a 10% discount. There are also opportunities for all customers to take advantage of seasonal discounts off up to 15% during quieter periods so do keep an eye on our website for offers and promotions.
As for the accommodation, all rooms are equipped to the highest standard. As I mentioned before, all spas have a library and a small supply of yoga books that can be borrowed. In every teaching room there’s a supply of aromatherapy candles, and mats for students to use. If you prefer a padded one, please ask at reception if there’s one available for you to borrow. All bedrooms are fully equipped with audio equipment and hairdryers, and a fresh fruit basket will be delivered to your door each morning. There is herbal tea and organic coffee available in the room along with fresh milk. If you prefer soya milk, please ask and will supply it to your room. All of the spas have good catering facilities with a wide variety of options available for vegetarians and vegans, so there will always be something suitable on the menu.
