By the BestMyTest TOEFL team. Study.com details checked in October 2026.
Study.com and BestMyTest both built their TOEFL courses for the test that launched on January 21, 2026, and both lean on AI. That is where the similarity ends. Study.com is a subscription practice platform with a conversational AI tutor and 3 adaptive full-length tests per CEFR level, developed under a partnership with ETS. BestMyTest is a complete study system: 6,500+ questions modeled on official ETS TOEFL questions and true to the real exam in style, pattern, and difficulty, 50 full-length adaptive tests, a free instant score on every Speaking and Writing answer, reviews by TOEFL certified teachers, and an AI Tutor that turns your mistakes into skill exercises.
Our recommendation: BestMyTest is the stronger TOEFL course for most test-takers on the new adaptive format. Every one of its 6,500+ questions is modeled on an official ETS TOEFL question, so you practice the same style, patterns, and difficulty you will meet on test day. Study.com is a reasonable pick if you want a chat-style AI to talk you through strategy and you are happy with AI-only feedback on your Speaking and Writing.

Study.com's TOEFL prep is a practice-first platform. You start with a diagnostic, the platform places you at a CEFR level per section, and from there you work through adaptive practice with an AI tutor on call. Here is what it includes, according to its own pages in October 2026:
What Study.com leaves out is the human layer and the skill repair. Every piece of feedback comes from AI; no teacher listens to your Speaking or reads your Writing. And when the AI finds a weakness, the next step is a conversation with the chat tutor and a lesson recommendation rather than a targeted exercise on the skill you missed. Its question bank is also a fraction of the size of BestMyTest's.
BestMyTest was built around one loop: practice, review, fix the skill, practice again. Every part of the course feeds that loop.

Both courses have an AI tutor, but they do different jobs. Study.com's tutor talks: it explains and recommends. BestMyTest's AI Tutor trains: it builds an exercise from the pattern in your errors, and the next instant score tells you whether the fix held.
The table uses the figures each company publishes about its own TOEFL course.

Study.com's headline is that it is the official TOEFL test prep partner of ETS. The partnership is real: ETS announced it in November 2025 and describes the course as developed in collaboration with the makers of the TOEFL iBT. It is worth being precise about what that gives you.
So the partnership tells you the course is aligned with the new adaptive format. It does not tell you how much practice you get, who reviews your answers, or what happens after a mistake, and those are the three things that separate the two courses. Every BestMyTest question is modeled on an official ETS TOEFL question, so it reproduces the style, pattern, and difficulty of the real exam. There are four times as many of them, and every Speaking and Writing answer can be reviewed by a person.
Reading and Listening are self-correcting: you pick an answer, you learn whether it was right. Speaking and Writing are not. You need someone or something to tell you what a 3 sounds like compared to a 4, and what to change. Both courses use AI for that. Only one adds a teacher.
Every Speaking and Writing response gets instant AI feedback scored against ETS-aligned rubrics, and you can ask the StudyAI tutor to explain the result. Feedback is AI only; no teacher reviews your answers.
Every Speaking and Writing answer gets a free instant AI score on each criterion, with feedback. The scoring aligns with official ETS TOEFL rubrics. On any answer you choose, you can add a detailed AI review or a TOEFL certified teacher review.

A rubric score can tell you that pronunciation cost you points. A teacher can tell you which sounds, and the detailed AI review can show you every one of them in your own transcript. Then the AI Tutor drills exactly those sounds. You can see what each kind of review contains on our TOEFL speaking review and TOEFL writing review pages.
Study.com's comparison pages carry quotes from learners who took part in its product research sessions. BestMyTest publishes its figures. The BestMyTest TOEFL learner performance data is updated from our own records, explains how every figure is measured, and regenerates the charts below each time it is refreshed.
Among BestMyTest learners who received three or more reviews of their answers from our AI and teachers, 93% raised their Writing band score, by an average of 2.6 bands, and 91% raised their Speaking band score, by an average of 2.2 bands.
Those figures rest on 205 095 reviewed Speaking answers and 181 664 reviewed Writing responses, from 78 777 learners who completed at least one full practice test section.
We cannot draw the same charts for Study.com, because it has not published comparable figures. If it does, we will add them here.
Study.com charges $39.99 for a one-time two-week plan or $59.99 per month on a plan that renews until you cancel. Both plans include the same features. There is no free trial, and no score guarantee is listed on its TOEFL pages. Two weeks for $39.99 works out to about $80 a month of access, so the monthly plan is the better value if you need more than a fortnight.
BestMyTest starts with an unlimited free trial: you can use the course free for as long as you want, with no credit card and no time limit. Paid plans run from a 7-day pass for a test next week, through one to six month plans, to one and two year plans, with the monthly cost falling as the term grows. Prices are shown in your local currency on the TOEFL plans page. Every plan carries a score improvement guarantee: at least a 1 band improvement on a Custom plan and at least 2 bands on a Premium plan, with a refund if you complete the course and your official score does not improve by that much. You do not need a previous TOEFL score. Your first practice test in the first seven days sets your baseline.
Two things to weigh beyond the sticker price. A BestMyTest TOEFL subscription also includes IELTS prep and BestMyLingo. And a single TOEFL retake costs more than either course, so the course that fixes your weaknesses before test day is the better value.
Study.com holds a test prep partnership with ETS, which shaped its course design, and writes its questions to ETS specifications. Every BestMyTest question is modeled on an official ETS TOEFL question, so it reproduces the style, pattern, and difficulty of the real exam. The partnership does not change how many questions you get, who reviews your answers, or what happens after a mistake, which is where BestMyTest leads.
BestMyTest, by a wide margin: 6,500+ questions and 50 full-length adaptive tests against about 1,600 questions and 3 full-length tests per CEFR level on Study.com. Because every BestMyTest question is modeled on an official ETS TOEFL question, that extra volume comes at the real exam's style, pattern, and difficulty.
Only on BestMyTest. TOEFL certified teachers review Speaking and Writing answers with audio feedback within three business days. Study.com's feedback is AI only.
Study.com's StudyAI is a chat tutor: it explains strategy, answers questions, and recommends lessons. BestMyTest's AI Tutor builds exercises from your own mistakes, so you practice the skill rather than read about it, and your next instant score shows whether it worked.
BestMyTest. Take an adaptive practice test on day one, use the diagnostic report to pick the AI Tutor exercises for your weakest skills, and use the instant AI scores to check every Speaking and Writing answer until test day. The 7-day pass fits a short timeline, and you can start on the unlimited free trial today. Study.com's two-week plan is its short-term option.
BestMyTest, yes. Its free trial is unlimited: no credit card, no time limit, and you keep access to the course free for as long as you want. Study.com's shortest option is the paid two-week plan.
Study.com figures were read in October 2026 from its TOEFL pricing page, its course comparison, and its page on how the course was built, together with the ETS announcement of the partnership. BestMyTest figures are the course contents at the same date, and the learner figures on this page are generated from our published dataset each time it is refreshed. We sell one of the two courses, and the unlimited BestMyTest free trial is the fastest way to check the comparison yourself.
