The Three Kinds of IELTS Writing Reviews

BestMyTest offers three free IELTS writing reviews, and you can use all of them on the same essay. The instant AI score marks every essay in about 3 seconds. The detailed AI score & feedback goes deeper, correcting and explaining every grammar mistake, writing a high-scoring rewrite, and giving you exercises for your weak points. An IELTS certified teacher review includes the detailed AI score & feedback plus a certified teacher carefully looks over your essay for more complex feedback.

Our learners use all three reviews. 3.001 IELTS essays got an instant AI score, 9.108 essays got a detailed AI score and feedback, and our IELTS certified teachers reviewed 9.236 writing tasks.

Instant AI score

The instant AI score is almost instant and is 90% accurate. It scores your essay on each criterion in about 3 seconds, so you get feedback on every answer you write.

Each instant AI score includes:

  • A band score from 0 to 9 on each of the four criteria: Task Achievement (Task 1) or Task Response (Task 2), Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy, for Academic Task 1, General Training Task 1, and Task 2
  • A paragraph explaining why you were given that score
  • Skill improvement exercises built from your criteria scores and written answer

Detailed AI score & feedback

The detailed AI score and feedback gives you a more comprehensive score that is 95% accurate. It marks every grammar mistake in your essay and is ready in under 2 minutes.

Each detailed AI review includes:

  • Every grammar mistake corrected and explained, with the grammar rule it breaks
  • Two rewrites: a corrected version with only the mistakes fixed, and an improved version that makes unclear sentences clearer
  • Feedback for each criterion: your strengths, and your weaknesses with suggested exercises for improvement
  • Skill improvement exercises built from your criteria scores and your written answer

IELTS certified teacher

An IELTS certified teacher reads your essay and gives you 100% accurate scores. You get the review within 3 business days.

Each teacher review includes:

  • Everything included in the Detailed AI Score & Feedback
  • Your essay further corrected and scored by an IELTS certified teacher

Why IELTS Writing Reviews Are Important

Many students focus on writing as many practice essays as possible. However, writing more essays without reviewing your mistakes may not lead to a higher band score.

An IELTS Writing review helps you understand both the strengths and weaknesses of your response.

When reviewing your writing, pay attention to these areas:

  • Task Achievement or Task Response: Did you answer every part of the question, and describe the key features in Task 1?
  • Coherence and Cohesion: Are your ideas in a logical order, with clear paragraphs and linking words?
  • Lexical Resource: Are you using precise words, and enough different words?
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Are your sentences correct, and do you use a range of sentence structures?

Identifying these weaknesses allows you to focus your practice on the areas that need the most attention.

Our Free IELTS Writing Review Checker Tool Helped 91% of Our Students Improve

We've helped our students with a total of 21.000 IELTS writing reviews. 91% of students with three or more reviews from our teachers and AI improved their band score by an average of 2,6 bands.

Our IELTS writing AI has reviewed 9.108 essays, and our IELTS teachers have scored 9.236 writing tasks. All three reviews find the same weak point: Grammatical Range and Accuracy was the lowest score in 69% of the 3.001 essays with an instant AI score, 88% of the 9.108 essays with a detailed AI review, and 89% of the 9.236 writing tasks our teachers scored. All three score the same four IELTS criteria, so the instant AI score shows you all four band scores on every essay in seconds, and the detailed AI review explains every mistake one by one.

How to Get IELTS Writing Reviews on BestMyTest

BestMyTest offers IELTS Writing practice in two sections: IELTS Questions and IELTS Tests. You can access your writing reviews from either section.

Individual Writing Questions

Turn Your IELTS Writing Reviews into Real Improvement

Receiving feedback and band scores is only the beginning. To improve your IELTS Writing band score, you need to understand your mistakes and apply what you've learned to your next response.

With BestMyTest, your AI Writing Review helps you identify weaknesses in grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, organization, and answering the task. Instead of simply reading your feedback and moving on, you can complete targeted AI Tutor exercises that help you work on the skills you find most difficult.

This creates a continuous learning cycle:

  1. Complete an IELTS Writing task: Practice an individual Task 1 or Task 2 question, or complete the Writing section of an IELTS practice test.
  2. Review your band scores and feedback, from the instant AI review or a premium review: Understand what you did well and which mistakes affected your writing performance.
  3. Identify your weaknesses: Focus on specific areas such as task response, organization, vocabulary, or grammar.
  4. Complete relevant AI Tutor exercises: Strengthen your writing skills through interactive exercises that target the areas where you need improvement.
  5. Try again and track your progress: Write another response, apply what you've learned, and compare your feedback to see whether your writing improves.

Every review is free: the instant AI review on every essay, and a premium AI review or an IELTS teacher review on any essay you choose.

Combining instant AI reviews, targeted AI Tutor exercises, and premium reviews from an IELTS teacher or our more detailed AI gives you a more effective way to improve your IELTS Writing skills. Instead of repeatedly making the same mistakes, you can work on specific weaknesses and gradually develop stronger writing habits.

Common Writing Mistakes Based on 21.000 IELTS Writing Reviews

When reviewing your writing, watch out for these common mistakes.

Not answering every part of the question: In Task 2, you may need to give your opinion and discuss both views. In a Task 1 letter, you must cover all three bullet points. Missing one lowers your Task Response or Task Achievement score.

Missing the overview in Academic Task 1: A chart or graph answer needs a clear overview of the main trends. Without one, it is hard to score well for Task Achievement.

Writing too few words: Task 1 needs at least 150 words and Task 2 at least 250 words. A short answer usually loses marks.

Repeating the same vocabulary: Try to use precise words that communicate your meaning naturally, rather than repeatedly using general words such as "good," "bad," or "important."

Making repeated grammar mistakes: Errors involving verb tenses, articles, prepositions, and sentence structure can make your writing harder to understand. Review these mistakes and practice correcting them.
