TOEIC Vocabulary - travel & hotels

In this article, you will learn about TOEIC vocabulary words related to travel & hotels topic. A good command of English vocabulary is extremely important in scoring well on all sections of the TOEIC. We strongly recommend that you study these vocabulary words to prepare for the TOEIC exam. Reservation = an arrangement in which something such as a seat on an aircraft or a table at a restaurant is kept for you

Reserve (a room/table) = Make a reservation = Book (a room/table) = Make a booking

  • made lunch reservations at the restaurant for 12 o'clock. Make sure you show up on time.
  • I have to work late tonight, so I canceled our dinner reservations.

W: Hi, my name is Michelle Wolf. I made a reservation for a double room, but the colleague I was traveling with had to go home, would it be possible to change it to a single?

M: Certainly, ma'am. A single room is $120 a night. How would you like to pay?

 

W: Hello, this is Surf and Turf Restaurant. How can I help you?

M: I'd like to make a reservation for this Friday evening for four people at 7:15.

W: Oh, I'm afraid we're fully booked at that time. I can fit you in at 8:30, though. Would that be suitable for your party?

M: I'll have to get in touch with my friends and get back to you. I'm not entirely sure if that will work for everyone else. 

 

Cancel a reservation 

  • Hi, I would like to cancel the reservation I made for tonight under the name of Grace Stone.
  • Will I be charged a fee to cancel my reservation?

Cancellation Policy

 

When the hotel receives your reservation, the total amount will be charged on your card. No refund will be made in case of cancellation, early departure, or no-show. If the charge to your card is denied, the hotel will cancel your reservation.

If you reserve something such as a seat on an aircraft, a room at a hotel, or a table at a restaurant, you arrange for it to be kept for your use. 

  • Hi, I'd like to reserve a table for two.
  • Hi, I'd like to book a table for two at 7 p.m. on Friday.
  • Hi, I'd like to make a reservation for two at 7 p.m. on Friday, the 16th .

M: Hello, Mega Sushi. How may I help you?

W: Hi, I'd like to reserve a table for four.

M: May I know your name, please?

W: I'm Sophia Green.

M: Okay, when is your reservation for?

W: It's for tomorrow at 6 p.m.

M: Okay, we have reserved a table for four, for tomorrow evening. And a phone number we can reach you, please?

W: Yes, It's 778-998-0702. Thanks.

 

Sometimes, you might want to reserve a table by window, a booth, a non-smoking section, outside tables, or inside tables. If you have mids, you might want to reserve high chairs/booster seats.

  • I would like to reserve a table in the non-smoking section, please.
  • Can you reserve one of your outside tables for us, please?
  • We want a table by the window if you have one.

  • Members are strongly encouraged to reserve tickets in advance; this will help you plan your visit and guarantee you a specific time slot.

Reseve can also mean "to keep something for a particular purpose or time".
