了解可數名詞跟不可數名詞

我們知道名詞就是人、地、事、物、概念，這個部分跟我們中文是一樣的，但英文的名詞跟中文的名詞有一個很不一樣的地方 : 英文的名詞有分「可數名詞」跟「不可數名詞」。先來說可數名詞。

✦ 可數名詞

因為「可數名詞」是能夠被一個一個數出來的名詞，所以在英文的表達上會分為「單數」和「複數」。可數名詞的「單數」形式，用於表達名詞數量只有「一個」的情況下，前面要加 a/an/one，例如: a pencil (一隻鉛筆) 、an apple (一個蘋果) 、one room (一間房間) 。可數名詞的「複數」形式，用於表達名詞數量有「兩個或兩個以上」的情況，名詞後面常會加上 s，例如: two pencils (兩隻鉛筆) 、ten years (十年)、five mugs (五個馬克杯)。

✦ 不可數名詞

「不可數名詞」是無法計算數量的名詞，且永遠以「單數形式」呈現，前面不可以放不定冠詞 a、an，後面不可以加 s ，像是 water (水) 這類沒有固定形狀、無法計數的事物不能寫成 waters，也不能寫成 a water。

雖然不可數名詞不能被計算，但是可以前面加上單位量詞來表達，例如: a bottle of water (一瓶水)、a cup of tea (一杯茶)、 two bottles of milk (兩瓶牛奶)、 a piece of cake (一片蛋糕) 。

常見的不可數名詞：

抽象概念 : information (資訊)、advice (建議)、knowledge (知識)、research (研究), progress (進度)、 news (新聞)

原物料 : gold (金)、 iron (鐵)、steel (鋼)、 wool (羊毛)、 sand (沙)

氣體、液體 : gas (氣體)、 air (空氣)、oil (油)、milk (牛奶)、water (水)、tea (茶)、coffee (咖啡)、juice (果汁)

食物 : sugar (糖)、 rice (米)、bread (麵包)、flour(麵粉)、 fruit (水果)、chicken (雞肉)、 pork (豬肉)、beef (牛肉)、lamb (羊肉)、cake (蛋糕) 、pizza (披薩) 

其它 : luggage (行李)、 furniture (家俱)、equipment (設備)

地名、語言名稱 : Taiwan (台灣)、English (英文)、Chinese (中文)

Coffee is my favorite drink. 咖啡是我最喜歡的飲料。

👉 coffee 不可數，所以用單數

I'd like a cup of black tea. Thank you. 我想要一杯紅茶，謝謝。

👉 雖然 black tea 是不可數名詞不能被計算，但是可以前面加上單位量詞 a cup of 來表達

He makes a lot of money.

business 有可數跟不可數名詞的用法: 公司(可數) 事業；生意(不可數) 

They set up a clothing business. 

他們創立了一間成衣公司。

She runs a printing business.  

她經營一家印刷公司。

The store has lost a significant amount of business since the pandemic. 

自疫情大流行以來，這家商店流失了大量生意。

Our firm does a lot of business with overseas customers. 

我們公司與海外客戶的有許多的生意往來。

Notice 有可數跟不可數名詞的用法:  告示牌、通知書(可數)；通知(不可數)

I'll put up a notice about the meeting. 

我會張貼關於會議的通知。

Could you give me some notice before you come? 

你要來之前可以通知我一下嗎?

Terms of the agreement are subject to change without notice. 

協議條款如有更改，恕不另行通知。
